I forgot to mention that we drove all of yesterday and did NOT see one fast food restaurant. Horrors! We had a nice picnic lunch from the cooler by Martin's Cove and Devil's Rock. We also didn't see but about 3 gas stations. They must be hidden somewhere. We were, however, well off the beaten path.
Also, even when it is in the 90s you don't really sweat and realize you are hot because it is so dry and windy. I'm sure the altitude has something to do with it too. We have really been trying to remember to drink a lot.
We walked around Independence Rock and think it is about a mile. It isn't so tall but it is big around.
While we were waiting to check into our motel a man, who is riding a motorcycle, asked the clerk how to get to Denver using side roads. She could only tell him how to get there on the interstates. I'm not even sure she knew what a side road is. We are missing something in the education, home and at school.
