August 17

I forgot to mention that when we were in Minden, NE yesterday and drove around the town square/courthouse, we noticed that there were NO stop signs, yield signs or stop lights. There is no way to know who has the right of way. Thank goodness there was only 1 car the whole time we were driving around. There was also one other intersection we found with no signs!

I have been to 3 quilt stores but bought something in only 2 of them!!!! I have some neat train fabric and will have to decide what to do with it.

Kids, we saw another buffalo!!!!

This is a real Indian head dress. The sign said it is a war bonnet. It is from a Pawnee tribe.

These are some toys that Indian boys and girls would have played with 150 years ago.

Here is a bottle of ink and a feather pen as well as a metal pen. Neither of these places had a blotter. Somewhere around our house we have an old blotter.

These are Indian moccasins that they would have worn 150 years ago.

All the above items came from a small Trail and Rail Museum in Kearny, NE. They also had a table setting that would have been in a railroad dining car from many years ago. It was so complete it even had a paper wrapped sugar cube. It didn't say what year it was from.

It was a chilly 48 degrees this morning and the weather channel said it was a record low. The previous low was 49 degrees. It warmed up very quickly as soon as the sun came up.

All the way from Kearny to North Platte we followed the Union Pacific railroad tracks. This is along the original route of the transcontinental railroad. The trains were really long and there were continuous trains in both directions. They had 2 sets of tracks with several sidings along the way.

This evening, in North Platte, NE, I had a very delicious buffalo salad. It was rather like a chef salad but with buffalo meat.
